14 Feb 2016 River Medway Trip
This was one of our Sunday local day trips, to the River Medway, starting at Yalding.
The weir was running continuously, providing a lot of turbulent water in the weir pool.
We started in the canal by the road, and slid down the spillover into the weir pool before heading downstream.
We paddled round the back of the marina, and portaged the lock to get back into the canal to return to the start.
As the paddle had been quicker than expected, we slid back into the weir pool and then explored up the River Teise that joins the Medway just below the weir.
This is normally a little trickle, but today had a decent flow coming down it. We paddled upstream for about a mile until fighting the flow became too much like hard work, and then drifted back down to the weir pool.
