Eight members of HDCC and 2 support crew met at the club house on Saturday 13th August at 11 am. Everyone packed the boats ready for an overnight stay at Normans Bay Camping Club site. After a packed lunch, we carried the boats down to the water’s edge and set off with the wind and tide with us.
Our first ice cream stop was at Glynn Gap. Most of us had Mc Flurries and after a short stop we were off again until we reached the Sovereign light cafe where we had another well deserved ice cream. This time a Mr Whippy- some with flakes and some without!
We arrived at Normans Bay Camping Club Site and checked in. The manager kept our boats behind the office and kindly transported our gear by tractor to our pitch.
We set up camp and most walked to the Star Inn for dinner, whilst others chilled at the site. More ice cream for dessert and then back to campsite for a night cap.
After a good/bad night sleep: We had breakfast, packed up and carried the boats to the water’s edge.
We set off with the tide but the wind, although low, was against us. However, it did not deter us. Our desire for more ice cream was stronger!
We made good time and were soon eating more Mr. Whippys at the Sovereign cafe.
We left and then stopped again for Mc Flurries but others had breakfast!
We finally arrived a lot heavier and happier at the club house ready for lunch!
Ps. We almost spent as much time eating ice cream as paddling!
