16 November 2024
Five of us had a very early start on the 16th November. We launched from Pevensey Bay car park around 6am to paddle towards Bexhill. Despite the early hour we weren’t the only ones on the beach – there was a fisherman taking full advantage of the low tides. And they were very low - it was quite a distance to carry the kayaks to the shore!
It was a serene paddle with an (almost) full moon in the backdrop and beautiful yellow/pink hues on the horizon with first light. We were joined by a solitary seal around Norman’s Bay. The tide was strong and the trip back to Bexhill took around an hour.
Although the wind seemed light there was a very obvious swell, when it came to landing the breaking waves hitting the shore at Bexhill caught me a bit by surprise, I didn’t quite manage a controlled exit and capsized on the way in – the water was fresh! I really enjoyed the trip – it was great to experience paddling with limited light. Big thanks to HDCC for organising the outing.
